For this week’s blog, I am asked to answer
the following:
1.
Compare and contrast the Loving Kindness
exercise and the Subtle mind exercise. Explain your experience including the
benefits, frustrations etc.
2.
Discuss the connection of the spiritual
wellness to mental and physical wellness. Explain how the connection is
manifested in your personal life.
The Loving-Kindness
exercise and Subtle mind exercise are very similar with the background noise
and the way of trying to focus the mind, but in different ways. It was hard for me to concentrate this time
because I was very distracted with getting ready for vacation. I was just not in the mood to concentrate
like I did with the Loving-Kindness exercise.
I have to say that both exercises were beneficial if I made the time to
do them each day. I preferred the
Loving-Kindness exercise over the Subtle mind one because I was able to relate
to it a whole lot more by the saying we give back what we give.
The connection of spiritual
wellness to mental and physical wellness is all in the concept of integral
health. The three components (mind,
body, and spirit) all lead to human flourishing. If I believe in my mind, then my body will
be the way I want it to. My spiritual
aspect of wellness, such as through prayer, will take over and bring all three
areas together to allow me to do so.
Hi, Danielle.
ReplyDeleteI think I'd be a little rattled trying to get ready for vacation, while executing a relaxation exercise!!
I agree with you that both exercises were similar in focusing the mind through breathing, but the Loving Kindness exercise was more difficult for me because it expected a lot more out of our minds in order to accomplish the task. My mind wandered quite a bit more with the Loving Kindness exercise...trying to concentrate on loving images without emotion I definitely need more work on! I completely believe that we get what we give...so I try to throw out positive energy into the world and so far I'm getting a lot of positive energy back! I believe that a lot of traditions within our religions are also relaxation techniques that connect us spiritually, such as prayer and the singing of hymns. I really never thought about that before! Thank you for opening my mind this evening!

Hi Danielle,
ReplyDeleteI guess all of us had some form of experience this week and was not able to concentrate on the exercise. I do thin the 2 exercises had the same background. Isn't the mind a wonderful thing but can be dangerous? I don't know how people do these yoga classes so often, I would be distracted over 90% of the time. What do you think?
